After
deciding to quit smoking, you should prepare for the Quit
Day
by changing your environment, lifestyle, and daily routines.
Pick a
Day:
 |
Pick a day that is less stressful and less busy, like on a weekend or
holiday. |
 |
Pick a worthwhile day to remember, such as someone’s birthday, or
the first day
of the month. |
Social
Support
 |
Talk to people who have quit smoking, learn from their experiences. |
 |
Tell your family and friends your quit date so they can support and
encourage you. |
 |
Identify some friends who will listen and to whom you can talk when you
find it difficult to withstand the unpleasant symptoms
of withdrawal. |
Remove
All the Signs of Tobacco:
 |
Throw away all cigarettes, lighters, and ashtrays from your house and car. |
 |
Clean your house, car, and clothes to remove the smell of cigarette. |
Avoid
Your Smoking Triggers:
 |
Drink plenty of water (at least eight glasses each day). |
 |
Increase your exercise and other physical activities; walk a few times each
day. |
 | Rest
more often. |
 |
Drive a different route to work, or drive with a friend who doesn’t smoke. |
 |
Keep yourself busy by doing projects you enjoy. |
 |
Stay away from alcohol, coffee, and friends who still smoke. |
